Math in Photography: MathCON’s Photo Contest, in Your Perspective

We are so excited to announce that MathCON will be hosting a photo contest alongside the 2018 MathCON Competition! To celebrate the photo contest and to embrace our love of geeking out over all things math, we’re going to be posting a series of blog posts over the coming months that are all about math and photography.

If you want to join in the fun, you can participate in the photo contest! Mathematics is all around us: Your favorite NBA player’s stats, the technology in your mobile phone, the Fibonacci sequence in nature, the Golden Ratio in architecture… the list is endless! Look around and send us your math photos until March 2, 2018.

The theme of the photo contest for this year is “Mathematics in Your Perspective.” For more information about eligibility and submission requirements, visit https://www.mathcon.org/photo-contest/.

As you scour the world for your perfect shot, stay tuned on this blog for posts talking about:

  • The Mathematics of Digital Photography
  • Formulas in Photography you might never have considered
  • The rule of thirds
  • The math and importance of shutter speed, aperture, and lighting
  • And more!

If there is a piece of math and photography that you’re excited about, let us know in the comments down below or by using the hashtag #mathcon2018 on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Now go grab a camera (or a smartphone) and see what cool shots you can capture!
